Holland The History Of Netherlands

Holland The History of Netherlands
Author: Thomas , Colley Grattan

It took me almost three months to finish this book.

I was expecting a history book about Holland from the world history's perspective as people say that a lot of interesting things: Holland invented modern finance system. Holland colony covered large areas in the world. etc.

The book was mainly about the fight between Holland and Spain, about the the lineage of the Prince of Orange. The book helped me understand how Belgium became Belgium though.

Holland's independence and fight against Spain is definitely an inspiring story. Spain, as a world power, with all the famous generals, just couldn't conquer the liberty loving Holland people. On the other side, war, whether it is for independence or for religion, is just terrible for the people.

Unfortunate for me, the book is written maybe 100 years ago in hard to read English. Suggest to find another Holland history book.
