Sons of the Conquerors

Sons of the Conquerors - The Rise of the Turkic World
Hugh Pope
2005, The Overlook Press

From the Great Wall to Balkans, with 140 million people, Turkic World is gonna to have a big impact in the 21th century.

Turkey is the lead country in the Turkic world. Because of its secular rule and pro-west policy, Turkey is clearly on the rise despite the Kurd issue, bad human rights record. It's interesting to know from Pope's book that so many Turkish people are in west Europe, especially in Germany.
With their oil and natural gas resourses, Azerbaijan, Kazakstan and Turkmenistan around Caspian sea are the nations courted by all the powers.

The conquering history of Tamerlane the Lame and Sultan Mehmet made Turkish people a proud people. The nomad nature always pushes Turkish people pursuing new things.

Ethnic connection, similar language and Muslim religion are the factors linking the Turkic world. Let's see whether there will be a united Turkish voice in this century.

The book touches so many aspects of Turkish world based on the Authors's extensive travel and interviews as a reporter. A good book if one wants to know the Turkish world.
