Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World

Author: Jack Weatherford 2004
The New York Times Bestseller

When I was in high school, I read a biograph/novel of Genghis Khan in Chinese. Several years ago, I read "Genghis Khan Conqueror of the World" by Leo De Hartog. Jack's book is the third book I read about Genghis Khan.

These are the words of Nehru, the first India PM, quoted in this book.
"Chengiz is, without doubt, the greatest miltary genius and leader in history."
"Alxander and Ceaser seem petty before him".

More interesting things conveyed in the book:
- Moghol empire is the first empire in world history with the policy of religious freedom.
- Moghol empire is the first empire genuinely promoting free trade.
- Moghol empire is the first empire with a universal secular law.
- Khubilai's Yuan dynasty even supported public education. The number of public schools during his reign should be the largest in China before 20th century.

Genghis Khan and Mogol Empire is the key thing to understand the history of inner asia. A lot of things quite seperated geographically are linked through them. I will keep reading on this area.
